With all this talk about how stupid some bosses are...okay, ALL bosses...we should not forget those we also work with, or are employed because they're customers.

I worked in a health club for twenty years. (If you're IQ was too high, they wouldn't hire you, get the idea?) The most common telephone question we received was:

"Uh, yeah, could you tell me what time the 4:30 class starts?"

It was a club that had a LOT of sorority/fraternity people as members...I'm just sayin...

What is it with these idiots who slowly get off an escalator and stand right there in front of you - just as you're about to bash into their stupid backs - while they fumble with their purses or cell phones or whatever? Don't they know there are people behind them about to run them over? Perhaps a good jab in the kidneys with my thumbs would move them along. And then there are the idiots who can't seem to take that first step, as if they're going to be dragged down into the apparatus, itself... "Let's see, I'll let one more step go by...no, no, I didn't like that one. I'll wait for the next step to come up. No, no....oh, no - what step is the right one to take?" AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

This dumbass sends his girfriend's sister a text message saying he wants to have sex with her. Girlfriend's sister is talking, face to face with girlfriend out in front of this apartment when sister gets message.
I'll bet $100 he didn't know they were there.

I've known these people personally for years. Used to 'date' girlfriend.
Idiot and girlfriend live in the apartment behind this one, and sister is Rebecky's best bud.
Idiot isn't the sharpest crayon in the box, obviously, but he's an alright guy, mostly, sometimes, well, once in a while.

I heard yelling, screaming and very loud voices raised in anger.

What a moron!

And I'll bet another $100 he don't get laid by girlfriend for awhile - if ever again.

Hi, all...I'm new to this tribe, but I really do see lots of stupid shit and stupid people (and not just because I live in West Virginia, but it probably doesn't hurt).

So I'm watching TV today, and I saw a commercial for "Cheese Crumbles." I guess this is for when a cheese cube is way too big, but shredded cheese is just too damn small??!! WTF?!

Who the hell is buying Cheese Crumbles? My theory is that Kraft has begun selling this product as a way to make money off the shit they'd normally throw away. I'm guessing "Cheese Crumbles" is a euphemism for the crap they scrape out of the bottom of the vats at the end of the shift.

Anyone else seen any products that struck you as stupid?

That's all this thread is going to be called. Aghr- I'm complaining about being EVICTED in the worst way. When me and my boyfriend moved to this house we were told by the landlords that they've had two people living there before us in this apartment (one after another) and they "got rid of them" because they weren't the "right people" for their neighborhood and the family (apparently after living here a month each) But we seemed to fit- everything was fine- they were nice to us we were nice to them.. we got settled in- bought new furniture- I got a new job five minutes away from our house- we cleaned the whole place.. put everything up arranged the whole apartment- and as soon as we've completed just pretty much the last arrangements they're coming down to tell us (two months after we've moved) that their relatives are moving to Canada and these were the people that helped them financially to get the house that they live in- so they have to do something for them now that they're coming and they would like to settle them into the basement apartment. They gave us a month-notice. I got so depressed all I could do yesterday was eat- I'm not big on eating but when I get depressed I either can't eat at all or overeat- today I woke up like I'm about to go to the funeral. You can't play games with people like this. It cost us money to move- it cost us time- I had to quit my job and find in this area another (my other job was too far away) It's health- moving everything- cleaning everything. I get so angry at how people step on others sometimes.. We had absolutely no problem with them other than they want to live apparently next to their relatives

Stupid things I was asked when working on a cruise ship ...

1. Do you live onboard? (Um, no, I commute!)

2. What time is the midnight buffet? (Um, midnight?!?)

3. Which elevator goes to the front of the ship? (Um, last I checked, elevators go up and down, not front to back)

4. Does the ship generate its own power? (No, we plug in, in Puerto Rico and we have a REALLY long extension cord!)

5. A bunch of us in the gift shop at 1 a.m., straightening up, door is lock, CLOSED sign on the door. Passenger knocks on the glass. "Are you guys closed?" (Guess this could happen anywhere, not just on cruise ships)

I walk in with a loaded squirt gun and says, "Ok, who wants it first?" I was talking to the felines, and Becky ups and says, "I do!" Squirt squirt squirt. She got it first, full faced and I loved it!

but people are so f*ck*ng stupid sometimes. *sigh*

the lady that lives next door to my parents (and was like another mom when i was growing up) has my email address. this was not the brightest of manuvers on my part, 'cause she sends 10-15 jokes/warnings/urban myths a day.

i haven't blocked her emails 'cause i'm working 300 miles from home and any connection, however tenuous, to home is welcome. i work, on average, 14 hours a day, so the only people i know here are the people i work with, most of whom i get along with very well. (fortunately!)

some of her emails are funny, some are really religious, some are infammatory and a lot are just wrong.

yesterday, for example, she forwarded an email called 'what i learned from hurricane katrina' that was one of the most bogus, racist and ridiculous things i've ever read. she also routinely sends on crap such as 'getting aids from needles implanted in the seats at the movies,' 'send this to everyone you know and b. gates will send you beer,' 'villians are out to steal your stuff at the mall by spraying you with perfume/ether,' 'dialing *677 will save you when a fake cop tries to pull you over,' and so on.

as a matter of course, before i forward anything on, i run it through snopes.com. if it isn't true, i reply back with the link to the snopes page (or whatever resource i've used) and delete it.

something else she sent yesterday was that you should never return your hotel keycard 'cause it's got all your personal information on it and you'll lose everything to shifty hotel employees and their home scanners. so, research says 'false - didn't happen, not gonna, it could happen but it's not cost effective for hotels to put all that info on a key card,' and i sent back a reply that said that.

this morning i get this from her:
not sure why you feel the need to take the time to check these out when it doesn;t matter at all. So what if someone doesn;t turn in their key? It's not worth it to send you any more emails. All you do is critique - never do I hear "that was a good one".

It's no wonder you're all alone - and will continue to be with that attitude of yours.

Caught short

On Friday mornng I was driving to work on a very busy road. I glanced to the side of the road and saw a large woman wearing bright orange tracksuit pants. She looked like she was pulling them up, but next minute she casually pulls them down and squats with her legs on either side of a concrete power pole.

It was around 8:30 and this is a commercial area with loads of buildings where she could have asked to borrow their toilet. I looked around and didn't see any cameras, so assume it wasn't a stunt. Luckily the traffic was really slow so she didn't cause any accidents. She definitely did meet my criteria for stupid.

I thought I had seen it all:(

Hurricane Looters

Every time I see pictures on TV of one of the terrible storms, espcially US and Mexico, I see people wading through flooded streets carrying massive TV sets they have stolen.

Is there a marketing campaign that I missed that says, hey people, evacuate your homes while subliminally saying before you leave, head down to your favourite home appliance outlet and walk home with the biggest TV set you can carry without paying for it.

When the storm is over and your friends get back from the shelter, and if the TV set didn't get drowned in the rain while you were carrying it home, your friends and relatives wil praise you for your initiative.

Perhaps it is that I have never experieinced abject poverty, but I have never seen anything like that in New Zealand. The last flood that I experieinced, I worked side by side with hundreds of people I had never met before, shovelling dirt out of houses, puttling out furniture and other household items from strangers homes to dry out and see if it was salvagable. I didn't hear of a single item of theft. I did hear of loads of offers of food, blankets, clothing, places to stay, free holidays and generally people helping people, not people helping themselves.

Looking at pictures of some of the looters on TV, many didn't look poor or down on their luck (other than experieincing the worst storms of their lives). So what happens after the storm dies down, do they invite their friends over to watch their new 50 inch TV and tell them proudly that they looted it down at the local store. Will they watch it with pride every time they turn it on?

Am I missing something?

The boy was riding his bike and the brakes didn't work..... so he stayed on his bike and went straight into a barbwire fence... whata idiot I would have jumped off the bike and gotten road burn instead...

One Smart Cookie

A little background: Neiman-Marcus, if you don't know already, is a very expensive store; for example, they sell your typical $8.00 T-shirt for $50.00. Let's let them have it!

THIS IS A TRUE STORY!

My daughter and I had just finished a salad at a Neiman-Marcus Cafe in Dalles, and we decided to have a small dessert. Because both of us are such cookie lovers, we decided to try the "Neiman-Marcus cookie." It was so excellent that I asked if they would give me the recipe, and the waitress said with a small frown, "I'm afraid not, but you can buy the recipe."

Well, I asked how much, and she responded, "Only two fifity-it's a great deal!" I agreed to that, and told her to just add it to my tab.

Thirty days later, I received my VISA statement and the Neiman-Marcus charge was $285.00!
I looked again, and I remembered I had only spent $9.95 for two salads and about $20.00 for a scarf. As I glanced at the bottom of the statement, it said "Cookie Recipe-$250.00." That was outrageous!

I called Neiman-Marcus Accounting Department and told them the waitress said it was "two-fifty", which clearly does not mean "two hundred and fifty dollars" by any reasonable interpretation of the phase.

Neiman-Marcus reused to budge. They would not refund my money because, according to them, "What the waitress told you is not our problem. You have already seen the recipe. We absolutely will not refund your money at this point."

I explained to the Accounting Department lady the criminal statues which govern fraud in the state of Texas. I threatened to report them to the Better Business Bureau and the state of Texas Attorney General's office for engaging in fraud.

I was basically told, "Do what you want. Don't bother thinking of how you can get even, and don't bother trying to get of your any money back."

I just said, Okay, you folks got my $250.00, and now I'm going to have $250.00 worth of fun." I told her that I was going to see to it that every cookie lover in the United States with an e-mail account has a $250.00 cookie recipe from Neiman-Marcus for FREE.

She replied, "I wish you wouldn't do this."

I said, "Well, perhaps you should have thought of that before you ripped me off!" and slammed down the phone.
So here it is! Please, please, please pass it on to everyone you can possibly think of. I paid $250.00 for this, and I don't want Neiman-Marcus to EVER make another penny off of this recipe!
NEIMAN-MARCUS COOKIES
(Recipe maybe halved)
2 cups butter
24 oz. chocolate chips
4 cups flour
2 cups brown sugar
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp salt
2 cups sugar
8 oz Hershey Bar (grated)
5 cups blended oatmeal
4 eggs
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp vanilla
3 cups chopped nuts (optional)
Measure oatmeal, and blend in a blender to a fine powder.
Cream butter with both sugars.
Add eggs and vanilla, mix together with flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder, and soda.
Roll into balls, and place two inches apart on a cookie sheet.

Bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees.
Makes 112 cookies.

Do you have a tale specifically related to travel or traveling involving 'special' people?

I recall flying in to Los Angeles from Portland a few years back. The plane had banked around LAX, circled down past Long Beach and gone out over the ocean before coming back over land and heading for a northerly-oriented landing. I'm on the aisle on the left side of the plane. The Pacific is clearly visible outside to our LEFT.

A woman is chatting with her young daughter next to me, they are busy looking out their left-side window (and, it's broad daylight out).

I didn't clue her in on the mysterious 8,000 mile wide blue thing over her shoulder, sometimes referred to as the PACIFIC OCEAN. I was stunned that someone could recognize a friggin' outlet store from a few thousand feet but not be able to grasp the finer points of, say, the cardinal directions.

Dangerously stupid

Today I received a billing document from a massage therapist that not only had my client's billing info on it, but the names and credit card numbers of at least 50 other people. Bonus: she sent it to me via regular mail. And people wonder how their credit card numbers get stolen.

Stupid coworker

Okay, this story needs some background. I share an office with four other people. Two people use a printer that can be used by everyone. The printer is on a table inbetween my desk and my stupid coworker's desk. Yesterday, the printer jammed. In order to get the jam out, I had to pull the printer out away from the wall.

So today, I find out that my stupid coworker came in today and freaked out because the printer was not in its exact place and I had bumped some of the stuff on her desk. The coworker that she yelled at told her that she left early yesterday, so that were only two people here in the afternoon, so maybe stupid should ask on of us. She refused.

I think I found a new way to piss stupid off (evil laugh).

She proceeds to have a conversation about linking all of her credit cards to her checking account. This involves her LOUDLY giving all her checking account information, her full name, her mother's maiden name, her DOB, and all of her credit card info, including the expiration date and the security code.

At the end, the entire car is looking at her incredulously. No one seemed to be writing, but damn.

When it was my turn to get off, I interrupted the next call (which was also of a personal nature) and suggested that in the future she think about where she is when she is loudly giving personal information. It was almost entertaining to see the blood drain from her face as she realized what she had and looked around. Almost, but not quite.

My boss (VP of HR) watches people like a hawk to make sure that they are putting in their 8 hours, yet sneaks out the back door to leave early on a regular basis.

She also has NO idea how web pages work. She insists on double clicking hyperlinks. DUH!

She also gets lost driving to work! NO KIDDING. Her husband finally bought her a car with a GPS.

A 34-year-old man performing a field sobriety test for a police officer alongside Route 130 in Bordentown, N.J., was killed when a tractor-trailer driver (who police said had probably been drinking) lost control and smashed into him (December). (The officer jumped out of the way in time.) And a 40-year-old New York City man was killed when, inebriated, he fell and broke a fish tank, fatally slashing an artery; he had recently purchased the tank to help his girlfriend's kids learn responsibility (December). verbally conveying helpful tips to other drivers

Though I usually ride my motorcycle to work, this morning I took my car. While approaching a certain 4 way stop where I was to make a right turn, I observed an older woman in a shiny new dark blue Toyota sedan coming down the hill to my left going much faster than one would expect if she were actually planning on stopping where the stop sign said she should. Well, sure enough, she didn't so much as tap her brakes before sailing right through the intersection where I might have been had I not been several times more observant than she was being on this fine morning.

Well, I ended up sitting behind this very car a block down the road waiting for the light to change (she was apparently more inclined to stop for the red light, most likely because other cars had stopped for it and were blocking her path). At this point I surprised myself by getting out of my car and approaching her drivers side window on foot. I very succinctly said to the glass "There's a stop sign back there. You blew right through it", and pointed in the direction from which we had come. She looked slightly aghast and mouthed the word "Ohh!" I then got back in my car, waited for the light, and went on my way.

What do you think, was I out of line?

We stopped at a "Happy Chef" for lunch in Iowa. We ordered our food and my mom asked for an iced tea.
The waitress paused, looked at her and said, "We only serve that hot."

I work in an office. Actually, I may as well tell you I work in City Hall. Ok, so I'm trying to reserve a City Car for my boss and the stupid bitch I have to call for this purpose is the most rude and stupid person (who can one person be the same?). Every time I call to confirm when I have to pick up the keys or if she asks me to spell my boss's last name, she never fucking remembers who I am. Then she gets rude with me. I understand that she deals with City people all of the time, but I encounter this stupid bitch every day because she works on the same floor as me and...I see her on the elevators. But does she ever remember me? No! I make attempts to say hello because, duh, I figure she knows who I am but she ignores me and then I feel like a stupid-ass myself. Ugh!

Oklahoma Cop 'Bags' Two on Drug Charges

SHAWNEE, Okla. - Policeman Jon Arnetts was just doing a good turn when he pulled over a car to alert the driver there was a black bag on top of the vehicle. Then he found out what was in the bag.

It contained a handgun, baggies with a small amount of white Crystal and marijuana, a smoking pipe and several pills.

The two people in the car were arrested on drug charges, and one will also face a weapons charge.

After the vehicle was impounded, police also found a large hunting knife, a butterfly knife and digital scales

Pop-Tarts

I acquired a copy of the Pop-Tarts Comedy Video. It was free and I like Pop-Tarts and comedy is often funny. I recommend this video, by the way. Paula Poundstone is the host and she makes fun of Pop-Tarts in a good way.

My favorite comic on that tape is Doug Kehoe. He talks about stupid people (see, I had a point).

If I remember correctly, his basic point was this: We all do dumb things on occasion. Can't get around that basic fact of life. But when we do something even DUMBER to cover it up, then we're being stupid.

So, you're walking down the street and you realize you forgot something back in the car, so you turn around and go back to the car. It's a dumb mistake, but it can happen. HOWEVER, when you realize that you've left whatever-it-is back in the car, do you then SNAP YOUR FINGERS or gesture otherwise in such a fashion to indicate that you've forgotten something. In case anyone's watching, you certainly down't want to look stupid and just do a 180 and keep walking.

The moment you left the thing in the car, you were dumb. The moment you remembered it while you could still do something about it, you were smart. The moment you snapped your fingers, you were stupid.

It's a fine line and I always carry a sharp pencil.

Microwave Man

I've been watching this one guy in my office attempt to heat up his lunch. Trust me when I say I am NOT making this up! I watched him put hios chinese leftover (with the aluminum foil container) into the microwave. Put it on high for 6 minutes and walk away. The lightning storm was cool! The next day, we had an audience cause I told them about "Microwave Man" and sure enough, here he comes, this time with something in tupperware with tin foil on top! 6 minutes on high (I guess that works for anything) and... walks away. One of my group (asswipe) informs MM about not putting metal in a microwave and his answer.....

"Why not... I do it at home all the time!"

I really can't blame stupid people because 'stupid' may be their lot in life. "Judge not, lest ye be judged" is a hollow verse because even if you don't judge, there will be those who will judge you according to their own ways of thinking. But I just prefer not to judge anyone, because until you've walked a mile in someone else's mocassins, there's just no way of knowing what causes them to act in a particular way. The answer to all, I believe, is to love, to forgive and not to cast anything negative upon the glowing oceans of our perceptions.

Another verse goes "let he who is sinless cast the first stone" and knowing that there are several areas in which I am completely and unabashedly stupid, I have no business really commenting on what stupidity I might encounter in day to day life. Though I might, from time to time, but that speaks more to my own faults than to anyone elses.

Sorry if this bugs anyone, but it's not my intention to bug - perhaps more to, oh - hell, I don't even know at this point. Ever stand outside of yourself and just go, "WTF?"
